History and Facts About Raffia
Raffia fiber comes from the leaves of the Raffia Palm and the leaves may grow as long as 65 feet! The raffia fiber does not shrink when wet and dyes easily. It is naturally resilient and can be crocheted easily into pliable hats. The export of raffia is an important source of income for the natives of Madagascar which is one of the world's poorest nations. (Madagascar is the world's 4th largest island, and the 12th poorest country!)
